These terms apply to website design, hosting and care services provided by Peter's Web Studio to its clients.
Scope of service
Peter's Web Studio offers three ways to work together:
- Setup — a new website of up to 5 pages, written and designed, mobile-friendly and fast-loading, with the domain registered in the client's own name. One round of revisions is included in the setup fee.
- Hosting & Care — ongoing hosting, security and uptime monitoring, and text/photo updates on request, billed monthly. The domain stays in the client's name throughout.
- Self-managed — the client takes on hosting themselves after a full handover with a plain-English guide. No ongoing fee is charged; further changes are billed separately as they're requested.
Payment
The setup fee is payable before work begins, unless otherwise agreed in writing. The Hosting & Care fee is billed monthly in advance, by card (a Stripe payment link) or standing order, as agreed with the client.
A domain name registration fee (typically £10–15 a year, varying by domain) is payable separately, directly to the domain registrar — the domain is registered in the client's own name and paid from their own account, so this cost never runs through Peter's Web Studio.
Prices may be revised with at least 30 days' notice to existing clients.
Domain and hosting
The domain name is always registered in the client's own name, using their own payment details, regardless of which plan they choose. The client owns their domain outright and can move it at any time, with or without Peter's Web Studio's involvement.
Under Hosting & Care, hosting is provided and managed by Peter's Web Studio on its own infrastructure — the client doesn't need their own hosting account. Under Self-managed, the client holds their own hosting account and is responsible for it after handover.
Service levels
Peter's Web Studio provides hosting and care services using reasonable care and skill, and aims to keep sites available and up to date. No guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free uptime is given — this matches standard industry practice, where even large hosting providers offer a percentage-based service level, not an absolute guarantee.
Planned maintenance or third-party outages (hosting provider, domain registrar, DNS) beyond Peter's Web Studio's control are not treated as a breach of these terms.
Liability
Peter's Web Studio's total liability arising from these terms, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, is limited to the total fees paid by the client in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Peter's Web Studio is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profits, business or data, except where liability cannot be excluded by law (for example, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability in any way not permitted by law.
Changes and cancellation
One round of revisions is included with the initial setup; further changes are quoted and billed separately.
Hosting & Care is billed monthly with no fixed contract term — either party may cancel with 30 days' written notice. On cancellation, the client may move to Self-managed (with a full handover) or take their site and domain elsewhere; no refund is given for the current month already paid.
Peter's Web Studio may decline or end an engagement at its discretion, subject to a reasonable handover period and a pro-rated refund of any fees paid in advance for services not yet provided.
Client responsibilities
The client is responsible for providing accurate content (text, images and other material) for their site, for reviewing and approving the site before it goes live, and for responding to requests for information or feedback in reasonable time — delays on the client's side may delay the project.
The client confirms they have the right to use any content, images or material they supply, and agrees not to use the site for any unlawful purpose.
Ownership, data protection and governing law
Once the setup fee is paid in full, the client owns the content and design of their finished website. Peter's Web Studio retains no rights to reuse the site's specific design or content elsewhere, though general techniques, code patterns and know-how may be reused on other projects.
Any personal data collected through the client's site (for example, via a contact form) is handled in line with Peter's Web Studio's Privacy Policy, available on request or via the website footer.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
